PSEL Standard 10: School Improvement

Effective educational leaders act as agents of continuous improvement to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.

Reflection

In light of increased state standards for student achievement and rising expectations for schools, I have found that it is critical for the instructional leader and administration to guarantee that the school strives for continual improvement. Not only does the school want to see academic improvement, but they also want to see behavior and faculty/staff improvement. If I were to become a school administrator, I would collaborate with stakeholders to develop a continuous improvement plan for our institution. The stakeholders would be able to play a more active role in the school's continuous improvement if the goals were being monitored effectively. I have learned that it is critical to incorporate school stakeholders in educational reforms and improvement plans in order for them to be effective and have support from the community.

Artifacts

Instructional and Curricular Requirements Aligned with School Vision and Mission: The vision and mission of the school are shaped by the stakeholders and the school's management. This occurs when the instructional and curricular requirements do not correspond to the school's vision and mission, and there is a misalignment between those of the school and the objectives of the curriculum. As a school administrator, I've learned that it's critical to ensure that the school's continuous improvement goals and its vision/mission are in sync with one another.

ACIP Process Flowchart: This infographic was part of the "School Improvement Process" important assignment, which included several other components. During my time as an administrator, I documented the procedure of the ACIP committee, as well as the manner the ACIP is developed from beginning to end. The process is visually displayed in order to better understand it as a cyclical process.

School Improvement Plan: The culmination of this project was a field experience in which I took part in an ACIP committee meeting. I am already a member of the ACIP committee at my current school. I presented the agenda, which included the collection of documents in preparation for the ACIP's year-end closeout at the end of the year. In my opinion, it is critical for the committee to have agendas at each progress meeting so that the conversations can be documented and used to create the following year's ACIP program.
